Este territorio declar\u00f3 unilateralmente su independencia de Serbia en 2008 y ha sido reconocido por 23 de los actuales miembros de la UE y tambi\u00e9n por EEUU.<\/li>\n<li>Sin embargo, Espa\u00f1a, Grecia, Chipre, Ruman\u00eda y Eslovaquia se han negado a reconocer Kosovo.<\/li>\n<li>La intervenci\u00f3n militar de la OTAN contra Serbia en 1999 hizo que este territorio quedara bajo control internacional. Serbia hab\u00eda anulado previamente la autonom\u00eda de que gozaba Kosovo y comenz\u00f3 a reprimir a sus ciudadanos, la mayor\u00eda de ellos albaneses desde el punto de vista \u00e9tnico y cultural.<\/li>\n<li>Kosovo es actualmente uno de los mayores beneficiarios de la ayuda de la UE en t\u00e9rminos per c\u00e1pita y, a pesar de las diferencias internas entre los Estados miembros europeos, tiene actualmente el estatus de candidato potencial a la adhesi\u00f3n a la UE.<\/li>\n<li>A pesar del acuerdo alcanzado entre Serbia y Kosovo, por el que la primera reconoce la autoridad de la segunda sobre todo su territorio, algunos pa\u00edses de la UE mantienen sus reticencias a reconocer a Kosovo como Estado independiente.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_5&#8243;
